Description

These apple oatmeal bars are a warm, comforting dessert featuring a crumbly oat and butter base, layered with sweet apples. They are lightly spiced and have a satisfying texture that will leave you wanting more.

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup oatmeal

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup butter

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

2 1/2 cups chopped apples or 3/4 cup apple butter

1/2 cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the oatmeal, salt, flour, and cinnamon (if using).
  3. Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pat half of the mixture into an 8×8-inch baking pan.
  5. Layer the chopped apples or apple butter on top of the bottom layer, followed by sprinkling sugar over the apples.
  6. Crumble the remaining mixture on top to create a nice crust.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 35 minutes or until browned.

Notes

Note:  If using apple butter, you may need to use less cinnamon and adjust sugar to taste.
